Ten years after the Fourth Holy Grail War, Waver Velvet now bears the title Lord El-Melloi II and teaches at the Clock Tower, the center of the Mages Association. His position comes with obligations to the El-Melloi family and to its young heir, Reines. Together with his mysterious apprentice Gray, Waver becomes involved in cases where ordinary deduction is not enough, because magecraft, family politics, and personal secrets are inseparable from the crimes themselves.
