Only a week remains before the next Wave when the countdown suddenly stops and strange familiars attack Lurolona Village. Queen Mirellia reveals that the cause may be the awakening of the Spirit Tortoise, a colossal beast that gathers human souls and forcibly delays the Waves. The four Cardinal Heroes are asked to cooperate in stopping it, but Naofumi is the only one who takes the request seriously. With Raphtalia and Filo, he joins forces from several kingdoms and meets Ost Horai, a woman mysteriously connected to the Tortoise itself. What begins as a battle against a walking catastrophe eventually opens a path into another world, where Naofumi faces enemies with their own reasons for interfering with the fate of the Waves.
