In a distant star system, men and women have lived on separate planets for generations, with their hostility growing into a literal war. Hibiki Tokai is a third-class worker from the male planet Taraak who sneaks aboard a military vessel to steal a machine, only for an attack by female pirates from Mejere to throw everything into chaos.

When both ships are pulled through a wormhole into unknown space, a small group of men and women becomes stranded together aboard one vessel far from home. Fear and prejudice make cooperation nearly impossible, but a new alien enemy that does not care about their gender conflict forces them to learn quickly. As their machines begin combining into powerful new forms, both sides discover that much of what they were taught about the other was built on inherited myths rather than reality.
