After Japan has become a vast desert, survivors live among scattered ruins and settlements where any dangerous task can become a paid job. The most notorious handyman in the Kanto wasteland is Desert Punk, a small mercenary with exceptional combat skill, cunning, and an ability to use the environment to his advantage. His reputation says he finishes any contract no matter the difficulty. People who know him better also know he is selfish, lecherous, and remarkably easy to manipulate whenever an attractive woman appears. His jobs repeatedly cross paths with the clever mercenary Junko, who exploits those weaknesses without mercy, and he eventually takes the young Kosuna as an apprentice. Between contracts, betrayals, and scarce water, the desert proves that survival does not make anyone heroic; it only rewards people who become very good at surviving.
