Momonga remains inside the virtual world Yggdrasil until its servers are scheduled to shut down, wanting to spend the final moments in the guild home that holds memories of absent friends. Midnight passes, but he is not logged out. Instead, he remains trapped in the skeletal body of his character, while the non-player residents of the Great Tomb of Nazarick have become living beings with personalities and memories of their own. Unsure whether he has entered another world or whether other players arrived as well, Momonga takes the name of his guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, and begins exploring. Possessing overwhelming power and servants who consider him an infallible ruler, he must somehow become the master everyone already believes him to be.
