Hidamari no Ki

Edo, 1855. Japan is approaching a historic turning point. Ryoan Tezuka is a young physician studying Western medicine at a time when its methods are still viewed with suspicion, while low-ranking samurai Manjiro Ibutani clings to justice and the traditions of his class as the society around him begins to change.

The two men could hardly be more different. Ryoan is carefree, impulsive, and easily distracted by women; Manjiro is rigid, earnest, and quick to confront wrongdoing. Their friendship grows through epidemics, political unrest, and the arrival of foreign influence, forcing both to decide what deserves to survive as the old Tokugawa order starts to bend.
