Senkuu and the Kingdom of Science prepare to sail beyond Japan in search of the origin of the petrification beam. Ryuusui solves the problem of command, but an ocean crossing also needs preserved food, precise navigation, and tools that can see beyond human sight, leading them to revive a gifted chef and reinvent radar. As the Perseus nears launch, an impossible radio signal arrives from someone who understands their technology and repeats a single question: Why? The unknown observer changes the purpose of the journey. Their search points toward Treasure Island, where a society lives close to the power of petrification itself, turning the mission into a race to reach the device that ended civilization before someone else can use it against them.
