Thirty-two years after parting from his old companions, Chirico Cuvie arrives at the oasis town of Gurue and unexpectedly reunites with Gotho, Vanilla, and Coconna. The long separation has changed their lives, but Chirico remains the same solitary soldier whose presence draws conflict close behind him.

The town's fragile calm is threatened by armed factions and unfinished business linked to Chirico's past. Meeting his friends again offers a glimpse of the life he lost, yet surviving the new battle may require him to walk away from that warmth once more.
