Tooru Ichii enters high school expecting to spend her days beside her childhood best friend Run, only to discover that Run already has two close classmates, Nagisa Tennouji and Yuuko Nishi. Protective and easily jealous, Tooru is initially suspicious of anyone who might take Run's attention away from her.

The four girls gradually settle into an easy friendship built from lunches, classes, teasing, songs, and the tiny events that make school life memorable. Run's absentmindedness, Tooru's fierce loyalty, Yuuko's reactions, and Nagisa's practical attitude ensure that nothing needs to be dramatic for an ordinary day together to become funny.
