Koukaku Kidoutai Arise: Ghost in the Shell - Border:1 Ghost Pain

In 2027, New Port City is still recovering from war when a self-propelled mine explodes and a military officer connected to an arms-dealing scandal is shot dead. Daisuke Aramaki of Public Security encounters Major Motoko Kusanagi, a highly skilled full-body cyborg serving in the military's secretive 501 Organization, while investigating the overlapping incidents.

Batou suspects Motoko herself may be involved in the bombing, and detective Togusa follows a separate trail involving the murder. Motoko is also being watched by her own superiors, whose control over her body and memories makes the case intensely personal. Solving the conspiracy becomes the first step toward deciding who she is when the military can no longer define that answer for her.
