Emma, Ray, and the older children escape Grace Field, only to discover that freedom beyond the farm looks nothing like the world they imagined. The wilderness is filled with demons, food and shelter are scarce, and their pursuers have no intention of letting them disappear. The children follow coded messages left by William Minerva, uncovering clues about life beyond the farms and meeting people they never expected could help them. Every discovery expands their understanding of the world they were born into and forces Emma to reconsider what saving everyone will actually require. The goal is no longer simply escaping one house; it is finding a future where children can live without being raised as someone else's food.
