Kiyotaka Ayanokouji and his classmates enter their second year at the Advanced Nurturing High School without a moment to relax. Their first special exam pairs every second-year student with a first-year student for a written test, but the risk is deliberately uneven: if a pair falls below the required score, it is the older student who faces expulsion.

As the class races to secure capable partners, Ayanokouji has another reason to study the newcomers closely. The White Room has placed one of its own students inside the school with orders to force him out. Surrounded by unfamiliar players, shifting alliances, and old rivals, Ayanokouji must protect his position while identifying an enemy trained by the same institution that created him.
