Genjo Sanzo, Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, and Cho Hakkai continue west to stop the resurrection of the demon king Gyumaoh, fighting through a land where humans and demons are being driven into deeper conflict. Their already volatile group faces a new complication when they encounter Hazel Grouse, a foreign exorcist from the western continent, and his companion Gat.

Hazel possesses a disturbing ability: he can use a demon's soul to restore a dead human to life. His hatred of demons places him at odds with Sanzo's mixed group and turns questions of life, prejudice, and sacrifice into more than philosophical arguments. As Hazel's purpose becomes clearer and internal tensions sharpen, the four travelers must protect the bond holding their mission together or risk being broken before they ever reach the west.
