Shiki

The village of Sotoba is so quiet and isolated that the death of a young girl initially seems like a local tragedy and nothing more. Then deaths begin multiplying during a hot summer, and doctor Toshio Ozaki starts to suspect that what he is seeing is not an ordinary epidemic.

At the same time, Natsuno Yuuki becomes convinced that people who recently died are still moving around the village, and his fear draws attention toward a mysterious family living in an old hilltop mansion. As the existence of the Shiki is revealed, survival becomes an ethical conflict as much as a physical one: are creatures that need human blood simply monsters, or can the villagers become even more frightening once they decide to exterminate them?
