Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Keiichi Maebara moves to the small village of Hinamizawa in the summer of 1983 and quickly finds a close circle of friends in Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika. Their days appear idyllic until the annual Watanagashi festival approaches and Keiichi learns about a series of murders and disappearances that have occurred around the same night in previous years.

Each incident is linked to the curse of the local god Oyashiro, yet Keiichi’s friends refuse to discuss the subject and behave as though asking questions is dangerous. Suspicion begins poisoning his trust, turning familiar gestures into possible threats. But what is happening in Hinamizawa is larger than one boy’s paranoia. As the festival draws near, tragedy returns with the unsettling certainty of a village trapped inside a summer that does not know how to end.
