Keitarou Gentouga has such strong spiritual sensitivity that ghosts have been drawn to him since childhood, and one encounter left his hand cursed and drove him into years of isolation. When he finally tries to return to ordinary life in college, he takes a tutoring job for a brilliant young girl named Yayoi Houzuki.

Yayoi does not fear ghosts; she hunts them. A powerful spirit took her mother's ghost, and she is collecting dangerous entities to build enough strength to pursue it. Keitarou is dragged into some of Japan's most haunted locations alongside Yayoi and Eiko, who has an unusual fascination with danger of her own. For him, every investigation means moving closer to the supernatural world he spent years trying to escape.
