Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei

By the 21st century, magic has become a technology taught and measured like any advanced technical skill. At First High School, students are divided by practical performance into an elite First Course and a Second Course treated largely as reserves.

Miyuki Shiba enters as one of the school’s brightest students, while her older brother Tatsuya is placed in the lower course because of poor results in a narrow type of practical test. The ranking fails to measure his extraordinary engineering knowledge, combat ability, and rare forms of magic. As school rivalries, social discrimination, and outside threats begin to collide, it becomes increasingly clear that the supposedly inferior student did not fail because he lacks power. He simply possesses abilities the school’s ordinary standards were never designed to evaluate.
