In Den City, duelists enter the vast virtual network LINK VRAINS through digital avatars and compete using a new method known as Link Summoning. Beneath the entertainment lies a long conflict: the hacker group Knights of Hanoi is hunting a mysterious artificial intelligence while attacking the network and anyone connected to the hidden Cyberse world.

High school student Yusaku Fujiki enters LINK VRAINS as the duelist Playmaker, driven not by fame but by a need to uncover the truth behind a traumatic incident from his childhood. When he captures an unusual AI he names Ai, Yusaku gains both a troublesome partner and a key to the mystery. His search brings him into direct conflict with the Knights of Hanoi and SOL Technologies, where every duel can reveal another piece of a conspiracy connecting humans, artificial intelligence, and the future of the network itself.
