Yuuma Tsukumo dreams of becoming a great Duel Monsters player despite losing far more duels than he wins. When his school rival Shark breaks the key left to Yuuma by his father, their confrontation opens a mysterious Door of Destiny and brings Astral, an amnesiac being visible only to Yuuma, into his life.

Astral's scattered memories have become the powerful Number cards, and collecting them requires Yuuma to challenge duelists whose personalities are often warped by their influence.
