Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto returns from the Russo-Japanese War with the nickname Immortal and a promise he wants to fulfill for a fallen comrade. His search for money leads to a rumor about stolen Ainu gold whose location was encoded as tattoos across the bodies of escaped prisoners. The story becomes real when Sugimoto sees one of those tattoos and is then saved from certain death by a young Ainu hunter named Asirpa. She wants the gold returned to her people and has personal reasons tied to her father, so the two agree to work together. Across frozen Hokkaido, bears, criminals, soldiers, and rival treasure hunters pursue the same secret. Each journey forces Sugimoto and Asirpa to rely on the other's skills until a practical partnership becomes genuine trust.
