Higashi no Eden

In November 2010, missiles strike Japan in a bizarre incident that kills no one and becomes known as “Careless Monday.” Three months later, college student Saki Morimi is on a graduation trip in Washington when a completely naked young man saves her from trouble with the police. His name is Akira Takizawa, but he remembers nothing about himself and carries a phone loaded with 8.2 billion yen.

Akira returns to Japan with Saki and begins recovering clues to his identity, discovering that he is one of several people selected to spend enormous fortunes in a mysterious game whose stated goal is to “save Japan.” Each participant has a special phone and failure carries a deadly cost. As Saki searches for the truth about the stranger she met by chance, Akira must learn whether he once saved the country, or helped place it in danger.
