At dusk, the man in the yellow mask gathers listeners around his paper theater and tells nightmares that often begin somewhere painfully familiar: a home, a school, a road, or a workplace. The first strange detail seems small enough to ignore until it becomes clear that whatever caused it was present long before anyone noticed. The spirits do not explain their rules or give victims enough time to learn them. Stiff paper movement and the empty spaces between images leave part of the horror outside what can be directly seen. Each tale belongs to different people, united by the same late realization that an ordinary rumor may have been a real warning.
